VIP No.7 / 2023 Interview with Margarita Siempre Viva

On the occasion of the Cordillera Festival, we spoke briefly with one of the leading national bands of the new generation in the country and representative during this gathering of Latin American sounds made here.

1. Margarita Siempre Viva's music has made its mark throughout Latin America. Between tours, people, and everything you've experienced in recent years, what is the most unforgettable memory you carry with you?

The most unforgettable memory for us is the reaction of the people we meet. That moment, when they see us play and we, on the other side, see what we mean to people's lives, is what we carry with us at all times.

2. Let's talk about your latest album: “Un lugar más cierto” (A More Certain Place), a work that explores a profound way of looking at everyday life, love, detachment, nostalgia, and a little bit of loneliness. For you, after almost a year and after all this, what does this work continue to sound like?

In Un Lugar Más Cierto, we believe it sounds like a search and continues to sound like a constant search, which we are perhaps redefining more with the passage of time, of trying above all to get out of the comfort zone we were in.

3. We recently had the good fortune to have you on stage at the Cordillera Festival, a show that coincided with Café Tacvba, but despite this, you were welcomed by an audience that was waiting for you and sang along to each of your songs. What did this moment mean to you, especially in a context where you were one of Colombia's standard-bearers in the midst of this gathering of Latin American sounds?

It meant a lot of responsibility for us and a huge incentive to put on the best show of our career. Since we were alongside the best in Latin America, we wanted to measure up, and that's what it meant: to measure up to the best.

4. There is a detail in the middle of the Cordillera Festival show that caught our attention, which is that when you arrived on stage, flowers were handed out to accompany the moment. Beyond the name of the band, what do flowers symbolize for you personally?

Flowers symbolize birth and death.

5. It's been a while since your last release. What surprises do you have in store for the future of Margarita Siempre Viva, new releases, tours, and more?

New releases, I would mention the EP or collaboration album that is on the way, and a new tour through Mexico and Latin America.

6. Finally, we would like you to recommend a Colombian artist and a Latin American artist that we should be listening to right now.

We recommend Bella Álvarez.
